West Hempfield Township - Lancaster County, PA

Our new municipal building and police station is NOW OPEN!!!

Mosquito Spraying:  The Lancaster County West Nile Program will be conducting an ultra-low volume (ULV) mosquito control operation to reduce high populations of mosquitoes capable of transmitting West Nile Virus on or about August 15, 2018 in parts of East Hempfield Township and West Hempfield Township.

Stormwater/Flooding:   As everyone is aware, this summer has provided us numerous major rain storms.  Please understand that there is not a quick and easy fix to most of the recent flooding problems.  This summer's rain events are not typical and are difficult to prepare for.  Many of the Township's developments pre-date current stormwater management requirements and the cost to update those developments is, in most cases, not feasible.  Many developments have private stormwater systems, meaning the stormwater management facilities in the developments are completely private and are not owned or maintained by the Township, but rather are owned and maintained by the property owners whose properties the facilities are located on. The Township does our best to keep up with Township owned and maintained stormwater facilities - however during and after major rain events our crews are spread thin in responding to cleanup requests.  We ask everyone's patience in addressing these concerns.

Urban Growth Area (UGA):  On August 7, 2018, the Board approved a new Urban Growth Area for the Township.  This is NOT the same as changing the zoning, but rather a part of the Comprehensive Plan process that establishes where growth is appropriate in the future.  For the most part, changes made were to fill in 'donut holes' within our existing UGA and to add a few parcels already served by public sewer and water.   CLICK HERE to view the map.

New Recycling Guidelines:   Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority (LCSWMA) has provided new guidelines for recycling due to the changing recycling market.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION.

BOTH GRUBB LAKE PAVILIONS HAVE BEEN DAMAGED BY FALLING TREES. PAVILION RESERVATIONS WILL BE LIMITED AND THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES WHEN THEY WILL BE FIXED. PERSONS WITH RESERVATIONS ALREADY MAY SEEK TO CHANGE PARKS OR REQUEST A REFUND.
